Computer Aided Design & Technology

The use of Fourroux’s state-of-the-art technology eliminates the inconsistencies of the conventional method. The use of this scientific approach enables us to provide the highest quality care & devices in the most time efficient manner.

It enables us to go beyond the traditional approach of prosthetic care, the role of providing just a prosthetic device. We are now able to provide unmatched quality service, resulting in world class care.

Laser Scanning Technology view video

A laser scanning camera system is used to acquire a 3 dimensional shape of our patients’ limb, which is then stored on a computer. A laser light, similar to ones used in reading bar codes at a store, is emitted from a handheld box. This light scans over the entire limb and captures an exact digital image replicating the shape and size of our patients’ limb.

Laser Scanning Benefits

  • Speed view video– the scanning process only takes approximately 45 seconds, allowing our practitioners to spend the valuable time learning more about our patients, their family, their lifestyle & their goals.
  • Accuracy – the exact size and shape of a patient is acquired digitally
  • Consistency – each and every individual scan is identical in shape and is less dependent on the technique or skill level of the practitioner
  • Clean – no plaster or bandage is used during the laser scanning process

Once the scan has been completed, the digital file is directly sent to our fabrication department to begin creating an initial socket for the test fitting. During this time, a Patient Plan view video is developed for our patients limb, lifestyle & their rehabilitation.

Evaluation Process view video

Approximately 45 minutes to 1½ hours from the end of the scan, our patient will be fitted with their initial test socket.  This test fitting is designed for the Fourroux practitioner to capture valuable feedback from our patient on the initial fit of the prosthesis. This feedback is essential in obtaining the optimum fit required for our patient to be able to reach the goals set for a functional & quality lifestyle.

Rehabilitation & Physical Therapy

Part of every patients’ successful outcome is the incorporation of Fourroux’s on-site Physical Therapy program.  On staff Physical Therapists assist individuals by teaching them how to walk correctly with their new prosthesis.

A customized physical therapy program is developed for each patient to increase their mobility, their range of motion, and to rehabilitate existing habits that may be inhibiting the quality of life they desire.

Follow-up view video

Every patient that comes to Fourroux is given the tools to be successful as an amputee.  Over time however, changes do occur and technology does improve. A customized follow-up plan is designed and prepared for each individual patient to insure that they have the capabilities to lead a functional and quality life now and in the future.

The use of computer aided design & technology is at the forefront of prosthetic technology. It has enabled us to change the way we provide patient care and has allowed us to move away from the conventional methods still widely used in a majority of the prosthetic facilities today.

For a comparison of Fourroux’s advanced technology to today’s conventional method, please see The Conventional Method section of our website.
